Microsoft Surface Pro 3 now on sale at Currys, starting from £549

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablets are currently on sale at Currys, with prices starting from £549

Microsoft may be running their own an Easter sale on the latest Surface Pro 3 tablets, but Currys have gone and undercut their prices, with the cheapest being £549 for the 64GB HDD / i3 processor / 4GB RAM model.

That said, we would recommend investing in a TouchType keyboard to go with it, as they not only act as a protective cover but makes it feel like a true laptop alternative. Thankfully, Currys are also doing bundle deals for both a Surface Pro 3 and a TouchType keyboard, with the cheapest coming to £658 for the 64GB version. Head over to the Currys website to see all the available offers. Thanks to goonertillidie @ HUKD!

Just been in Currys, looks a swishy machine (for a premium windows tablet) But even with the reductions, seems a bit lacking when a good laptop at this price range can do more. Or am I not the demographic? :p

@ SpeedyG: That's a good point, actually! Do you buy a laptop that is more powerful but larger in build, or do you go for the smaller, sleeker Surface that has less grunt behind it?

I actually bought a Surface Pro 1 way back when to help record audio interviews on the go. Being able to plug in a USB mic, load up Audacity quickly, not have to carry around anything particularly heavy, and be able to move files onto a USB stick with no trouble afterwards is a godsend. I've even found playing some touch-compatible games like Civ V are great on the Surface, but at the same time the lack of true processing power means it will always be a secondary device to my main desktop (and even my aging laptop.)

So, what I'm trying to say is that you're basically buying small-form-factor convenience at a premium with tablets like these, but if you can do without it you're probably better served getting a laptop.
