Microsoft has started firing out invites for its upcoming Windows Phone event. On May 24, Microsoft promises to “lift the curtain on the next major release of Windows Phone.”
Unless we’ve been grossly misled, that update will be Mango, which is expected to see Windows Phone's numberage creep up from 7 to 7.5.
Mango will be significantly more impressive than the NoDo update that introduced copy&paste earlier this year. Windows Phone 7.5 will enhance multitasking, and introduce the App Marketplace to a further 19 countries, bringing the total to 35.
There will also be a host of apps from big names such as Amazon, Skype and Spotify, and even good old Angry Birds will finally get it on the WP action.
Over in rumour country, Microsoft is expected to crank up the Bing, with Shazam-style music identifier Bing Audio, Bing Vision for scanning barcodes, and Bing Maps.
Of course, Mango won't be released till later in the year, but hopefully we’ll get a vague timescale from Microsoft when they show off Windows Phone 7.5 on May 24.
