Minecraft – Pocket Edition initially hit smartphones as a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play exclusive in August, before being released Market-wide to the rest of us Androidians in October.
Now iOS-rockin’ peeps can get their grubby little hands on some Minecraft – Pocket Edition action from ye olde App Store.
All you need is an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad with iOS 4.3 or later. Oh, and £4.99 in your virtual App Store wallet. That’s pretty steep as far as mobile gaming is concerned.
And, like the Android version, “Pocket Edition” means you’re looking at a fairly stripped down Minecraft experience; only the classic construction mode is available.
Construction is literally – and I don’t necessarily mean this in a bad way – pointless, in that there aren’t any set goals to achieve. You simply wander around the world building stuff with 36 different kinds of block.
I’ve been oddly immune to Minecraft fever thus far, so maybe I’ll pick it up and give it the review treatment soonish.
