Can mobile networks tell if you're tethering and not just using normal mobile data?

However it depends on the network as to how they can see and/or block you.
For example- Three, T-Mobile & Giff Gaff use packet sniffing and can pretty much detect if you're tethering straight away.
Other networks such as Virgin, Tesco and others may say they block tethering but they have no system in place to automatically detect if you're tethering. They'd have to manually look into your account.
