Do any mobile phones ever increase in value? Is something like an iPhone 2G worth hanging on to?

Yes, but usually they would need to be new, in sealed boxes.
If they are used, they'd have to be rare, old, in mint condition etc...
There are probably tens of millions of iPhone 2Gs gathering dust in people's drawers. Not collectors material, really.
I have a mint Nokia N91 - the one with the HDD storage. I've been offered over €500 for it, without a box or any accessories. No idea what I could get for one that is still factory sealed...
Really big money you'd only get for older, more special devices.

I guess it depends on the phone, if it's a really popular phone then yes as long as it's brand new and sealed. The first iPhone comes to mind and already they can fetch thousands. But thinking back it'd be interesting to see how much a brand new and sealed Nokia 3310 would fetch lol

You can still get full price for an as-new boxed HTC HD2... And for a reason. It's a great tinker-toy.
