Motorola Photon 4G in UK

Hi, sorry if this has already been covered, but does anybody know if this phone will work OK in the UK using a 3 sim card? Its possible to buy this phone out of the USA unlocked and it says that it works obn the GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks.

According to GSM Arena there is no 900MHz 3G band. You will not have 3G singnal if your provider uses 900Mhz. Usually it's 2100Mhz, but you never know.

I have big doubts that this phone can be bought unlocked. It's a Sprint device and they do not sell unlocked phones. You can root and unlock it yourself, which is probably what you being offered. Will be same story as with iPhone that you get "unlocked" from eBay and gets locked after first update. Sprint phones come with special market app, application restrictions and special provider settings.

To get Photon working properly you would need to get custom ROM from XDA Devs. Root, unlock and install this ROM. If this is something you are willing to do this phone is good; otherwise, I would not recommend it.
I'm planning on picking one up next time I'm in US.

there are several unlocked photon 4gs available on ebay... so you wont have trouble getting one. but no indication whether it will work in the uk.

Thanks for your comments.
I gave up eventually and have bought a LG Optimus 2X.
It's a pity Motorola didn't bring the Photon to Europe.
