Motorola reveals Defy+

Motorola reveals Defy+In the midst of its purchase by Google yesterday, Motorola still found the time to fire out a press release revealing the Motorola Defy+.

The Motorola Defy+ is reportedly “faster, smarter and richer” than the original. Looking at the specs, it’s not massively different, but hey – it still sounds pretty sweet.

Like the original Motorola Defy, the Motorola Defy+ is water-resistant and dust-proof, with a 3.7in scratch-resistant Gorilla glass display. The camera is the same 5MP.

However, the processor gets a cheeky bump from 800MHz to 1GHz, and – unlike the Motorola Atrix – it’ll ship with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

“Motorola DEFY+, our latest life proof smartphone, delivers the endurance and design strength to keep up with even the most demanding lifestyles, along with the social and entertainment capabilities that put friends and fun in easy reach,” beamed Alain Mutricy, SVP of portfolio and device product management with Motorola Mobility.

“We designed Motorola DEFY+ with all the smartphone features you need for a demanding lifestyle.”

The Motorola Defy+ will land in the UK in “early fall” – that’s “early autumn” to you and me.

If there weren't people around still blaring the "hello moto" ringtone I might consider a Motorola, but I'm way too traumatised by that freaky noise...

Seriously, I don't know why the Defy didn't sell better - from what I read a lot of people were quite happy with it...

err, price????

Yeah, I think price had a lot to do with it, for the same kinda price you could pick up a Desire as it'd been out for several months, which is undoubtedly a better phone (personally, I think being waterproof isn't a particularly useful phone feature).

Well, it's not like anyone has to buy a Defy+... I'm sure there are jobs where a bit of water-proof-ness won't harm... not to mention the many toilet accidents.

I liked the Defy, to my eye it had the best screen to bezel ratio as it had a whoppig 3.7" screen but kept the phone at a resonable size (even smaller than the Desire in height and width), plus the water resistance was quite appealing.

The only downsides were its unattractive back, slightly slow processor and rubbish camera. Plus i still really struggle to switch to Android after using iOS for so long especially when (IMO) the equivalent apps on iOS are better/have more functionality so I sold it on.

On a side note I am really hoping an OS can drag me away from iOS soon!

I don't care how waterproof it is, I am not using a phone that has taken a swim in a toilet of faeces. Makes me wonder about the cleanliness of used Defys...

the Defy ships with eColi test strips ;) #BurningPlatform

Put it in a dishwasher, but don't forget to turn dryer off.
