Music recording apps for the iPad

Is GarageBand the best bet for recording music on the iPad? Any alternatives?

No. There are some wannabe Android apps, but they all stink compared to what's available for the iPad. If you're serious about it, and want more than some idle beat banging, get an iPad.

The Multitrack DAW by Harmonicdog is an excellent recording app- if you get Audiobus you can use multiple apps while recording too. For example, I can record my guitar using the JamUp app on a track (there are 24 tracks if you buy the extra tracks- comes with 8), and even record a drum track at the same time (or first record the drum track, then record your other tracks- bass, synth, guitar, etc). With Audiobus the possibilities for recording and playing live have been expanded greatly, and I personally like the Multitrack DAW better than Garage Band (although the drums on GarageBand are excellent)- I record the guitar (and my synth) to an Ipad or using the Apogee Jam
