There’s been no shortage of action at the high end of the smartphone spectrum, with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 launching at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015, and the Sony Xperia Z4 and LG G4 almost visible on the horizon.
But things are every bit as exciting down in the circa-£100 sector. We met the Moto E 2015 last week, and now Acer is threatening to give Motorola a run for its money with the Liquid Jade Z.
Diving straight into Acer Liquid Jade Z specs, we have a 5in 720p display matching the largest of the Moto Gs (the Moto G 2014), but with the advantage of 4G LTE connectivity.
Acer Liquid Jade Z cameras outdo the Motorola Moto G, too, in terms of megapixels at least, with a 13MP rear snapper and generous 8MP shooter on the front for selfies and video calling.
Powering the show is a 64-bit quad-core MediaTek processor clocked at 1.5GHz, though that means you’re limited to Android KitKat 4.4 out of the box, and there’s no word on an official Acer Liquid Jade Z Lollipop update at this stage.
On the plus side, you get a decent freebie in the form of Acer Nav, a navigation app developed in conjunction with TomTom, alongside Acer Extend for simple pairing with your PC or laptop.
The Acer Liquid Jade Z is also notable for being remarkably light at 110g (the Moto G 2014 weighs 149g, for context), and it's super-thin, too, at just 7.9mm (11mm for the Moto G 2014).
Acer Liquid Jade Z price is initially set at €199, roughly £145 in our money, and we could see some seriously sweet deals on this in the coming months. That being the case, expect to find them right here on Mobot.
