Yesterday was officially a good day in the world of BlackBerry with news that one of its “established partners” had placed a single order for one million BlackBerry Z10 smartphones.
No details on who exactly it was, but BlackBerry has confirmed that it's the largest order its ever received in its history, and says shipments are starting immediately.
Predictably, the company also says the order shows just how strong demand for the Z10 and BlackBerry 10 is, although you could argue it only proves how strong demand is with one single bidder – albeit one with the need for a fair few phones.
The news has delivered a timely boost to BlackBerry's share price, which shot up 8% in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq to close at $15.62, with a similar bump having hit its Toronto stock exchange price.
Just a thought: if anyone suddenly sells a whole bunch of stock on the back of this, having only bought them recently, we could just have our mystery buyer. Quite a scheme for securing some discount phones.
