'New' HTC One render and sample image surfaces

'New' HTC One render and sample image surfacesThe HTC One, previously known as the HTC M7, seems to be determined to make the most publicly deliberate transition from rumour to reality in smartphone history.

Building on all the rumours we've already seen comes this latest candid flirtation with our eyeballs, which comes in two parts – a detailed head-on render of the HTC One, plus what's being billed as a sample image from its much-talked-about camera.

First off, the render, and we won't be surprised if you think it looks more than a little familiar. Last month saw a similar-looking render surface when the One was still being referred to as the HTC M7.

In fact, the only difference is that this time around the display is visible, showing the latest guise of HTC Sense, teaser details of the HTC One's launch event next week plus the Android navigation buttons along the bottom.

In both cases the source is evleaks, so we assume the first leak simply had the screen blacked out to drag out the leaky goodness a bit further.

As for the camera shot, it's a disappointment quite frankly. Despite all the ballyhoo about “ultrapixel” technology, neither the shot itself nor the EXIF data that comes with it is anything special.

The nature of the image is consistent with the possibility that it was taken simply to show the camera working rather than to test the far end of its capabilities, so we'll give the HTC One the benefit of the doubt and assume that the ultrapixel magic simply wasn't being utilised.

Love those huge lint collectors - ahem, speaker and mic grilles...
Other than that? An Android phone. Yay.

C'mon, HTC, you could have at least been a little original with your design...
