Has NFC stalled in the UK?

Has NFC stalled in the UK? I'm not seeing many contactless payment points. Seems like it hasn't really taken off?

In a word, yes.

yes, but thanks, early adopters for paying extra to serve as guinea pigs for the banking sector ;) Much appreciated.

There are more and more contactless payment points out there. Aldi, Boots, Pret a Manger McDonalds to name but a few. BUT... payments are limited to either £15 or £20 depending on the retailer and retailers like Tesco will absolutely NOT be installing contactless POS readers by default. They milk their existing assets to the point where its just not funny.
As far as NFC enables handsets goes no major UK bank seems to be particularly interested in making such handsets capable of making payments.
NFC = Noone Freaking Cares !!

NFC was a bit of a dud to start with, it's never really taken off and I don't expect it to. I think it's slowly starting to fade out and my money's on BLE for future applications such as mobile payments amongst others.

Ironically, quite a few phones had points deducted in reviews for, cough, missing NFC....

Yep I can think of 4. they all begin with i.
Ironically, I am trying my damndest to convince... let's call them 'people'.. NOT to install contactless readers into popular high street devices which dispense paper money on presentation of a suitable debit/credit card and it's associated personal identification number. "It's the next great thing" I am constantly being told by non-techies. (note i'm choosing my wording carefully here so that my on-line presence doesn't seem to be in direct opposition of that of my employer).

Tesco has had a button for contactless payments on its self-service tills for ages but it remains resolutely greyed out. The one time I tried to pay contactless with my debit card in M&S was a complete farce taking several attempts and minutes to get a connection with the assistant determined not to give up even when I wanted to pay by cash instead.

Not surprised it has stalled.
