Nokia 808 PureView delayed till July?

Nokia 808 PureView delayed till July? The Nokia 808 Pureview was originally tipped for a May release, then April, then May again, but more recently we were told we’d have to wait till June to get our hands on the super-snapper.

Now an update on Clove’s Nokia 808 PureView page suggests it’s been delayed once again.

Clove states: “First stock delayed until mid-late July. Colour variants to be confirmed”. Jeez, that’s a good six weeks away, at least.

It’s not entirely clear if it’s exclusively the UK's SIM free retailers that are affected, or if we’re facing a Nokia 808 PureView delay across the board – networks included.

Nor is it clear if there’s a global Nokia 808 Pureview crisis (er, bit melodramatic there, perhaps). As we heard before, Russia and India are first in line for Nokia 808 PureView goodness.

The Nokia 808 Pureview made waves at Mobile World Congress, being one of the few genuine surprises of the show, and rocking a ludicrous 41MP camera.

Reaction to the Nokia 808 PureView has been largely positive, however Team Ballmer won’t be too happy if the Symbian-based beast outsells the Lumias, Windows Phone 7 being Nokia's “primary smartphone platform” ‘n’ all.

Meh, the networks won't take it on and nobody will buy one SIM free as it'll be iPhone expensive. They'll sell about 4 units.

Next.

€430 Amazon Deutschland... N8 range - NOT iPhone at all ;)
And I'm getting one.
And it will sell well.

Meh, 808 or an SGS2...I'll take the balanced all-rounder, thanks (as would most other people).

What's the use in a 41mp camera with a small sensor (for such a high mp camera) and no optical zoom? Also, there's no way the networks will take the 808 on as a contract phone, so it'll be available for full price or not at all. In reality, I'd be shocked if they sold more than half a million.

It'll be available on contract in Germany and Ireland - I'm sure the UK will follow suit.
The Symbian app store bills through Networks... they like that, and the system is well established. The Symbian C7, 700 and 701 are selling steadily. On contract. And those devices have too small screens and not a single stand-out feature (battery life and build quality aside).
Leaving aside my own qualms - I believe quite a few former Nokians have been waiting for an excuse to return to Nokia. The Nokia N8 - contrary to what some folks may believe - sold in big numbers. It's still selling on some networks.

I'm not saying the 808 will sell in huge numbers. But it will sell well, and it won't need MS to throw around millions and millions. The cam does the talking. The rest is love-it-or-hate-it established.

I'll give you one thing, it's a hell of a lot more interesting than the boring, samey Lumia range from Nokia.

tbh they should just sell the 710 and admit it was a total utter failure.

Tbf, the 710 is only a success because they about halved the price of it.

yes, the 610 and 710 are pretty ugly. but half the price of a decent Symbian or BB...

I really think this Symbian OS is going to start taking off. I love double tapping icons instead of single tapping them, awesome!

bettsy  May. 30, 2012 at 20:09

I dont think anyone is bothered by this. The phone will dive like there is no tomorrow.

So... you obviously haven't used Symbian in a year and a half? ;) Fair enough :p

I really think it will sell well. But I may be wrong.

I thought you were referring to WP and the Lumia range as a whole, with the 710 being the exception, which they should continue to sell.

The 41mp camera (almost) makes up for the lack of an optical zoom, read about it here
http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2012/03/14/the-nokia-808-pureview-making-megapixels-zoom.

I think this will sell "ok". It won't appeal to the hardcore techno-geek but I know a large number of people who went for the N8 because it had the best camera around, and those people will similarly go for this phone

Yeah, but the Amazon sh*ts refuse to send phone to Ireland o_O (KIndle 3G, yes - phone? No)

Really? That's ridiculous, do they give any reason for not shipping to Ireland? Surely it's easier than sending it to the UK as no currency conversion needs to happen.
