Nokia has been firing out invites for its Nokia Connection event in Singapore next week, and the Finns are promising something special indeed. Well, they would, wouldn’t they?
The invite tells attendees to expect a “new market disrupting device”. That’s a fairly bold claim for any manufacturer, never mind one in Nokia’s unenviable position.
So what the hell could it be? The first Windows Phone 7 phone from Nokia? A tablet maybe? Well, not if Elop’s recent “tablet number 202” comments are anything to go by.
As The Nokia Blog astutely observes, Elop previously described MeeGo as a “future disruption in mobile ecosystem,” and we're told to expect a "market disrupting device". Will the N9 finally be showcased officially?
In any case, we can’t imagine the market will be "disrupted" too much. A Windows Phone 7 device wouldn’t be much of a surprise; as Elop himself says, there are scores of tablets and only one that the masses seem to care about; and the N9 redefines the word ‘niche’.
We'll find out for sure next Tuesday.
