Nokia closes UK online store

Nokia closes UK online storeFancy ordering a Nokia E6 or X7 direct from Nokia? Tough. You won’t be getting those or any other Nokia goodies from its UK online store, as it’s now closed for business.

There are, however, links to “information on where to buy the latest Nokia phones and accessories, plus support for your current online order.” Thanks, Nokia.

We’re not alone, as Nokia’s equivalent site in the US closed today too. That follows the closure of the Finns’ French store at the end of May.

Slashgear recently questioned Nokia about the closures, and the manufacturer explained that SIM free retailers used to be uncommon; nowadays, though, we’re spoilt for choice, with the likes of Amazon, Play, Expansys and Clove.

That logic might hold true for us in the UK, but, as Slashgear notes, Nokia is one of the only manufacturers to fit pentaband WCDMA radios in its phones as standard, meaning Yanks can (or could) pick up a SIM free device and use it on either AT&T or T-Mobile.

Right, seriously Nokia, enough already. Leave us alone for a few days.

Waste of resources, anyway, if you ask me.
Most people buy through networks or REALLY shop around.

Didn't need their own store anyway, they aren't Apple, stick to retailers keep costs down and design something relevent.

Agreed that it's probably no huge loss.

They have sided with Microsoft - its just the start of an inevitable demise for Nokia.

Which is a real real shame !

That's weird, my local store closed down some time over the past couple of weeks. Windows all blacked out, sign & window frames all painted over in black. Just an a4 sign in the window saying it's shut & if you need anything call this number. Nokia slimming down their UK retail operation?

Didn't even know they had stores, never heard of one ever being in my town.

Surely this isn't good news for nokia, there used to be a long term 20% voucher through quidco mind.

condracky  Jul. 1, 2011 at 03:45

A tad too expensive there anyway.
