Nokia design chief confirms tablet plans, says it will be a showstopper

Nokia design chief confirms tablet plans, says it will be a showstopperIt was only a couple of days ago that we reported on analyst predictions that Nokia was preparing to launch its first ever tablet before the end of 2012.

And now a top Nokia official has confirmed as much in a new interview, promising a device that would stand out from the crowd.

And quite a crowd it is these days too. Apple's iPad may still be hugely dominant, but it certainly isn't for lack of competition. In fact, some would argue that launching a tablet at all so late in the game is only going to end in tears.

But Nokia head of design Marko Ahtisaari remains a believer, Reuters reports. Speaking to Finnish magazine Kauppalehti Optio, Ahtisaari revealed that he was devoting fully a third of his time to helping create a device that will stand out from the tablet rank and file.

The only direct quote Reuters gives us is the highly illuminating “we are working on it”. Hopefully readers of the original article in Finnish got a bit more than that, either that or it was one desperately dull interview.

They had a netbook?

This tablet will depend on what windows 8 tablet brings to the table I guess, if I can use Steam it'd be a good start. Would need a lot of RAM though so somewhat unlikely I guess.

Steam would be fine. The specs which will be most likely would probably give equivalent performance to an average ultrabook.

Yes. Actually, rather well-built - incl. built-in sim-slot... but a no-seller. http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/08/24/nokia-booklet-3g-mini-laptop-unveiled/

Love the link, lots of people asking recently when it's out. Does seem pretty decent, priced too high? Or just hidden away seeing as I never knew it existed.

I seem to remember it was way over-priced then - something like €600-700? For a 10incher... Maybe it was a tad ahead of the times? IT was solidly build, had smartphone connectivity. But too expensive.
