Nokia Emulator

So I just happened upon the Nokia Lumia emulator after reading the "would you switch to iPhone" thread.

I think I prefer this to ios. If your gonna dumb it down, go deep.
I'd actually like to have more of a play with it oO

I prefer WP 8.1 to both iOPS and Android. Shame that many 3rd party apps suck majestically...
The OS is very good now.

PS: that isn't WP8.1 by the way ;)

Just 8 then?
Much different to what's in the 'emulator'?

Yes.
The tiles are now more customisable. There's the action center - i.e. a pull-down notification bar... etc etc etc.... Quite nice.

iOS isn't dumbed down anymore, it hasnt been for years. They've kept adding features and settings to a once simple OS, resulting in a mess which is nearly as complicated to use as some Android devices.

WP is the king of simple OS's, I still don't like it though. At least it's not pretentious like iOS (and everything Apple).

Well, imho iOS 7 has cured some of those ills.
I have other problems, though: Around the time I was using the iPhone 5s, Apple *****d
Mac OS's Finder, iPhoto and iTunes' sync.... Then iOS 7.1 did the rest. Essentially, at one point I was unable to use the iPhone because 2 Macs I have access to couldn't deal with a proper sync and restore. I relied on cr*ppy 3rd party work around apps, or...tataaaaa, a Windows laptop.

That drove home the issue of buying into a walled system big time.
To this day the Mac/iOS7 issues aren't all resolved. In fact: at the moment I can more conveniently sync a MS Lumia 1520 with a Mac than an iPhone or my BH's iPad.
RIDICK!

As to WP - have you used a WP8.1 device, yet, matt? It's a massive step up from 8.
I'm still not 100% comfy to settle on a Lumia as my main phone phone, but it's definitely a valid contender now.

Also: having been using an M8 for a while now (over tomorrow) I have to say Google/HTC made it damn difficult to easily manage a modern flagship.
On a Mac or Linux the M8 is practically useless. And HTC sync manager is the first desktop suite that is flatout do not understand. KIES is Nobel material in comparison... :p
So, I actually bought SyncMate, which helps a bit. But really? 3rd party apps to get sh*t on and off of a £500 phone?

I'm very close to just not bothering anymore.
In the past 5 years I have observed a clear decline in user friendliness. All OSs. ALL OEMs.
It's about the cloud. And if you don't like it, scr*w you.
