Nokia handset pictured running Android

Nokia handset pictured running AndroidBefore Nokia announced its Windows Phone 7 plans in February and Elop began shouting “third ecosystem” at anyone who’d listen, the manufacturer was said to be flirting with Android.

It seemed like a viable option given Android’s ludicrous popularity, but obviously Ballmer’s magic was too much for the Finns to resist. However, some pics leaked by a cheeky Chinese chappy give us a glimpse of a Nokia handset running none other than Google’s ubiquitous OS.

It’s not clear in what capacity the device exists, but the fact that the shots were posted by the very dude who initially leaked the Nokia Sea Ray lends some credence to the idea that the pics are indeed genuine.

Elop recently suggested that there is no Plan B for Nokia. He said: “Plan B is to make sure that Plan A is very successful.”

We reckon falling back on Android would be a far more sensible backup plan, and the leaked pics give us a glimpse as to what that particular Plan B might look like.

Well considering I can run, Windows 3.1, DOS, Windows 95 and now Windows XP on my Nokia C7 I'm sure there are smart folk working on getting Android OS onto the latest Nokia phones as I type.

It's probably just a test device from back when Nokia were considering android to run on their phones. I mean, look how old the version of Android that's running is. You can tell by the style of the Google search bar that it's pretty ancient, probably 1.5 or 1.6, also doesn't help that you can't see what device it's running on to estimate the age of the photo.

Could also be a screenshot? But yeah, of course Nokia will have experimented with Android.
