Nokia lining up six new devices for Nokia World

Nokia lining up six new devices for Nokia WorldJust yesterday we were expressing the hope that Nokia's October 22 event turning out to be a full-scale Nokia World in Abu Dhabi meant quite a few new devices are on the menu.

And it seems we're right: sources in the know have revealed Nokia has six new devices in the pipelines, plus a bunch of new accessories, one of which is supposed to be “pretty special”.

The Verge says “sources familiar with Nokia's roadmap” have opened up on what could be its final big event as an independent company before its handset operation is taken over by Microsoft.

Assuming the 6in Lumia 1520 phablet and the Windows 8.1 RT-based Lumia 2520 “Sirius” tablet are two of the six, that does leave plenty of room for other new arrivals we're not aware of at present.

At least two of the remaining four are likely to be Asha feature phones, but hopefully there'll be at least one more Lumia device – potentially the WP8 GDR3-based Lumia 929 that's reportedly heading for US network Verizon.

The Verge's sources talk about the releases covering a “large range” of form factors and devices, which likely means feature phones, smartphones, phablet and tablet, but who knows – maybe there's another arbitrary sub-division of mobile technology waiting to be invented?

As for the accessories, we have no idea what the “pretty special” accessory could be. Another wireless charging solution or PureView camera grip, perhaps? We'll know in four weeks.

"pretty special"?! Well, in fairness: they did surprise everyone when they launched the 808 - which served as good R&D for the only distinctive feature WP contributed to the smartphone world: Pureview! (okay, okay... AND TILES!)

Unfortunalty I suspect that the phablet 2520 may be the "pretty special" devicd that they are about to unveil, and TBH considering today Dell seem to have dropped the XPS 10 it means that if Nokia were to announce a windows R device it would be the only non-microsoft RT device out there which would be pretty special

The Nokia 2520 has a lot to fear from the range of Windows 8 Baytrail tablets coming, look at the Dell Venue 8, apparently 1080p screen, very sexy looks, full windows 8 and priced at $299! Just take my money...

Highend Asha would be nice. THEY are all compromise devices...
