Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet all but confirmed for September 26 launch

Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet all but confirmed for September 26 launchSeptember's looking like quite a month for new smartphones, and it's by no means over yet.

If you're buying what habitual leakmeister @evleaks is selling – and past form suggests you generally should – Nokia's 6in Lumia 1520 phablet will be announced on September 26 – that's exactly two weeks from today.

Of course, there's another good reason to trust to @evleaks' latest Twitter pronouncement: we've known about a Nokia event taking place in New York on the date in question (and the next day, for what it's worth) since the beginning of last month.

And almost straight away rumours suggested some phablet action would more than likely be on the cards, along with the possibility of Nokia's debut tablet making an appearance. Still, another bit of confirmation does no harm, especially from such a trustworthy source, and it's quite timely too given the extensive Lumia 1520 photos and specs that have leaked over the past few days.

To remind you, the Lumia 1520 is set to feature a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a full HD 6in display, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It'll run Windows Phone 8 GDR3, and is expected to come with a PureView-style camera that'll oversample 16MP images down to 5MP sizes.

It better gave a compelling reason for its 6-in bulk?!
I think it is obvious why only the Galaxy Note phablets sell in large numbers: S-Pen, dual window and some nifty handwriting recognition... If they want to emphasise the joy of editing photos on a larger screen, they should include the best cam they can make. Not a watered down version of the 925 camera. (IF true)
