Nokia Lumia 620 now on sale

Nokia Lumia 620 now on saleNokia's Windows Phone 8 entry point just got a fair bit cheaper with news that the budget Lumia 620 is now officially available across the UK.

The colourful handset with the interchangeable covers will set you back around £215 SIM-free, around £150 on PAYG or free on a range of contracts from O2, Three and Virgin Mobile.

Earlier in the month Clove promised it would have the Lumia 620 in stock by January 28, which surprised us a bit at the time. But it turns out it wasn't far off the mark, although Clove's £226 asking price is trumped by Unlocked Mobiles' £215 figure.

So what do you get for your money? Maybe we've been spoilt by the budget Android brigade, but it's tempting to say not enough (and the Comments from the Clove piece suggest it's a popular opinion).

The Lumia 620 comes packing a 3.8in WVGA ClearBlack display, a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (plus a microSD card slot) and – naturally – Windows Phone 8.

Ah, but wait. The real magic, or so Nokia tells us, lies in the potential for endless fun swapping out the Lumia 620's interchangeable cover for a differently coloured one. Colour options are well illustrate in the pic above, though your choice of what you get in the box will depend on who you buy your Lumia 620 from.

O2, for instance, will stick with black only in the box, but is running a promotion where you get a second cover free of charge in yellow, orange, green, white or cyan. According to Nokia, covers will otherwise be sold individually for “less than £20” apiece.

Hahaha Barbification. Crap doll but endless supply of dresses...
Ugly scenes on Twitter yesterday when a reviewer called the 620 "entry level"!!! The WP trolls nearly lynched him. It's MIDRANGE!!! And the BEST ***cough***

AhmadCentral  Jan. 31, 2013 at 12:34

I wouldn't call it midrange...

Well, yes and no... Point is: who cares?
The Lumia 800 was high(-ish) end upon launch, to now cost a third... is it entry level now?
What is the Ascend G300? £80 but specs better than some mid-rangers... WHO cares?

The guy's review wasn't even unflattering.

Now I've seen the price, I think I might point my mum in the direction of the 620 as she has been looking at Lumias for a few weeks.

JanSt / MOD  Jan. 31, 2013 at 14:01

Why not an 800 for that price? Does she need WP8? The Lumia 800 has a superior camera and overall build quality... Just saying

I did show her the Lumia but it was "too square".
Plus my dad likes to think he knows a bit about stuff he doesn't really know about.
He's been reading up on the Lumias/WindowsPhone and is convinced that she must has the latest version of WP.

hahaha gotcha :D

Mid range price(sim free). Bottom end wp8 phone, but hairs width above the low end htc though.

Seen similar wp trolls on hukd, they are quite funny...

JanSt / MOD  Jan. 31, 2013 at 18:29

Not sure about "funny" - I'd settle for "different".

ive also seen wp haters on hotuk, and here ;)

True. Now, I'm open about my hatred towards Microsoft, but I have frequently told folks to buy this or that WP device if it suits their needs. The winmo sporting HD2 is one of my favourite devices to this day.
My point was that WP "trolls" or "defenders" have a very distinct style - an odd mix of all out aggression, condescension and blind faith... Nah, sorry, I can't really describe it.
I'm not really fussed about it, though. We all say stupid things now and again. And we all have bad moments - be it for a minute or a lifetime :p

This mid range WP8 phone looks like a good deal.

Windows 8 ecosystem FTW. :p

I troll every brand tbh. But when it comes to recommendations I feel I give good and honest advice and have no problems recommending a phone I wouldn't personally use to someone who would get better use/requires the features.

Unless its a windows phone, I mean who in their right mind would buy one :P

SpeedyG  Jan. 31, 2013 at 20:11

Careful what you Ahmad, my Nokia 800 with WP7.8 and my soon to be updated LG Jil Sanders Mango phone r0ckorz.

Eat my hat.

Treab bought one, hang on I'm not making that any better am I ;)

Yep we did all recommend them for some people when the price plummet happened. This certainly makes the 8s look poor value on p&g and by the summer should be about 30% lower still ;)
