A few days ago, I penned Nokia confirms Lumia 610 Wi-Fi hotspot feature, Lumia 710 and 800 users left sobbing. Y’see, the middle two, already-released Lumias don’t currently have the tethering option, while the imminent Lumia 610 and Lumia 900 will.
However, in a Q&A session over on Nokia Connects, the Finnish manufacturer reveals that its middle children will soon receive a software update bringing tethering goodness.
In said Q&A session, Nokia was asked: “When will the tethering update for the Lumia devices be pushed out?”
To which Nokia replied: “It will be in coming soon for 800 and 710 via Zune update, for 610 and 900 it will be available at launch.”
Of course, soon is about as vague as vague can be, however Nokia has already fired out a few Lumia updates (to address battery concerns, for example), so we expect it won’t be too long. A matter of weeks, probably. Maybe.
Nokia doesn’t specifically mention whether that’ll be Wi-Fi and/or USB tethering, but we’d be surprised if Wi-Fi tethering wasn’t an option. USB, on the other hand, is more attractive in terms of battery life. Ah well, time will tell.
