Nokia Lumia 800 update starts rolling out

Nokia Lumia 800 update starts rolling outA couple of weeks ago, Nokia commented on reports of battery life issues with its first Windows Phone 7 handset, the Lumia 800.

At that time, the Finnish manufacturer promised a couple of updates – one in December, one in January. Well, we’re now into December, and – right on schedule – the first update is being rolled out.

Team Elop announced the update over on its Nokia Conversations blog. The full list of “performance and usability enhancements” reads as follows:

  • Charging improvements
  • Voicemail notification improvement
  • Replying to mail improved for Microsoft Exchange 2003 users
  • Improved display switching in bright light
  • Improved audio quality

We’re quite used to seeing regular iOS updates for iPhone users, with a simple iOS 5.X.X numbering structure. Nokia has no such care for simplicity; this update is 1600.2479.7740.11451. Seriously.

Update 1600.2479.7740.11451 will be drip-fed over a two-week period, with those in initial Nokia Lumia 800 launch countries receiving the update first. It can be downloaded through Microsoft Zune.

On its post, Nokia reiterates plans to deliver a second Lumia 800 update early in 2012.
