Nokia Lumia 820 shells in more detail

Nokia Lumia 820 shells in more detailThe Nokia Lumia 820 took a bit of a back seat at launch two weeks ago, as it’s essentially a watered-down Nokia Lumia 920 sans the PureView stuff and that.

We heard a little about the Lumia 820’s interchangeable shells at the launch thingy, and now Nokia has dished loads more dirt.

We have Adam to thank, with an article titled “Nokia Lumia 820 comes out of its shell” over on Nokia Conversations.

The standard Nokia Lumia 820 shell (pictured) comes in gloss red, yellow, cyan, purple and white, and matte grey and black.

However, there’s a fancier shell that adds wireless charging capabilities. It comes in five matte colours, namely white, yellow, black, red and cyan.

In either case (pun intended), the shells are made from something called PC/ABS. The colours are inherent in the material, so any scratches will – we’re told – barely be noticeable.

There’s also a ruggedised shell, which adds a “rubber-like material” to the front and edges. It’ll be available in yellow, green and orange, with a black trim.

The shells will be available alongside the Nokia Lumia 820 at launch. Whenever that might be.

Pity about the look of the rugged ones. Was thinking it strange that the more featured cases were in less colours but guess you'd rather have less of the dearer ones to make sitting around unsold

You can see scratches on the N9... yes, they aren't in-your-face like on other phones' glossy plastic, but they are noticeable

Is the 820 shell made of the same stuff the N9 was tho?
