Because it's Symbian? Software is just as important as hardware...

Yes, bigmo7, it is:) And s^3 on the N8 really surprised me. Very stable and fast, and offering realmulti-tasking... I guess a lot of the Symbian bashing is about taste?!It doesn't look cool. But featurewise Apple, Android and Microsoft have yet some tricks to learn from the Nokes. Having said that, the screen on the N8 could be a bit bigger for my liking :P

I've not tried S^3 but having used Symbian for quite a few number of years and recently switching to Android, I've not looked back at all. Imo Nokia have fallen really far behind with their OS.

Had a play with an N8 and I must say I cannot agree with you JanSt. That thing was slow compared to my HTC HD2 running Anroid as well as the OH HTC Hero. IMO Symbian has a lot to learn from Apple and Android in that it needs a decent app store with a wealth of beneficial apps. That will bring the scores of people over.

In terms of speedy UI, I agree with you. Largely, I think, it depends on what you use the phone for, and how you use it.
Using Symbian or WinMo, yes, I sometimes miss the fast scrolling etc, and many apps look and act very 2005. On the other hand, using the iPhone or Desire HD I miss many things that Symbian and WinMo (not wp7!) do better...
I'm not bashing any OS. Even WP7 may well suit some people best.
A major problem is the coverall term "smartphone" - never a protected standard it's too vague. I certainly don't 'feel' wp7 is a smartphone OS. After the upgrade maybe...

It's slow, outdated compared to other phones and it's looks are laughable. Wait for the Symbian ^4 phones later in the year.

n97 was the last straw for me. Loved the n95 as it was of it's time. n97 came out just as iPhone was getting big and android was around the corner. To say it was a disappointment is a massive understatement. Potentially, it was and until recently could have been, the best phone on the market. Huge memory, excellent camera, free on phone sat-nav, regular OTA updates - features that many phones include Android are just getting round to.
It was lacking a decent processor, RAM and software. So flawed, it let me down time and again. I won't touch Nokia phones now until the next generation of Meemo(sp?) phones, despite loving the N8's camera and spec (on paper) again.
