Nokia’s Israeli distributor promises Windows Phone 8 by year’s end

Nokia’s Israeli distributor promises Windows Phone 8 by year’s endOddly enough, this isn’t the first time we’ve scribbled about Israel on our news pages. Kosher smartphone, anyone?

Now we’re hearing that Eurocom, Nokia’s Israeli distributor, has promised Windows Phone 8 (codenamed Apollo) before the end of the year.

The statement from a Eurocom rep reads: “Eurocom Nokia is expected to launch in the Lumia Nokia devices based on Windows Phone operating system, towards the end of the year, after the released version 8.0 of the operating system that includes full support for Hebrew.”

Of course, Apollo arriving before the end of the year isn’t exactly breaking news, but it’s the closet to semi-official confirmation that we’ve had from Nokia concerning Windows Phone 8 action.

Other manufacturers thought to be keen to get in on the Windows Phone 8 Apollo action include Samsung and HTC.

And don’t forget all those Windows 8 tablets, too.

Windows Phone’s current version is 7.5, or “Mango”. It’s not clear if the current range of handsets will be upgraded to Windows Phone Apollo, or left behind when the new version arrives later this year.
