You might remember when the Nokia-Microsoft love affair was first made public, it was announced that the Finnish manufacturer would have special privileges, including the option to mess with the Windows Phone UI.
Now we’re seeing how differently things might’ve been if one particular designer had gotten her way.
The above Windows Phone concepts come courtesy of a lady who – you might be relieved to hear – no longer works with Nokia. By the sounds of things, they’re very much a thing of the past. Phew.
Indeed, a source of Pocketnow stresses that the mockups are “purely her own personal design explorations and were never part of any project being done at or for Nokia."
Back on February 16, 2011, Nokia’s Rich Greene explained: “We certainly do, in the context of this agreement, have the right to manipulate the UX, the UI, etc. but... I'm not speaking for the plan, I'm speaking as the Chief Technology Officer: Why would you?
“We're going to invest much more of our time, as we should have over the years, building on the platform as opposed to building in the platform.”
What do you think? Has Nokia missed a trick? Would you find a Windows Phone with butterflies and clouds and birds and funny shapes more appealing? Heck, I’m up for it.
