It may be hard for most Nokia fans to hear it, but what the company does best is build affordable, easy-to-use feature phones for the mass market.
Witness the new Nokia X1-00. It's a music phone of the cheap and cheerful variety, offering a big speaker, bags of battery life and a price that looks almost too good to be true.
Nokia's X Series is all about entertainment, and in the X1-00's case in particular – music. As you'd expect, then, it comes with dedicated music playback buttons – a bit of a Nokia speciality – and of course a 3.5mm headphone jack.
But the real highlight is the massive speaker around the back of this broadly attractive candybar contender, which rocks a good 160phons of volume – more than enough for most needs, though we're not sure back-of-the-bus types should be let too near.
Especially when they see the X1-00's price. Nokia says this basic music blower will retail for an incredible €34 – plus local taxes and subsidies – when it starts shipping next month. That makes it one of the cheapest mobile phones around bar none.
Colour-wise you've got a choice between a pair of two-tone designs: either black on the front and blue round the back, or orange up front and black behind.
