Can you have the same number on two different phones?

Is it possible to have the same mobile number on two different phones? Say a smartphone and a cheap back-up phone?

Never.

Although i remember Vodafone do this for some businesses but it's a bit different to what you're asking for.

To answer your question though, the best thing to do is buy a cheap pay as you go sim card and put some credit on. Then set up call forwarding on your current number so that any call missed on the current phone you have will be sent to the pay as you go sim. And the credit on that sim can be used for calling out if you ever need to.

No. Nope. Nah. Nein. Ever so often somebody claims they managed to achieve it. But: No!
The networks' hardware would explode :p They don't want it for a number of technical reasons.

Yes, same here in Ireland - in the olden days it was possible in certain circumstances.
I once read the full explanation for why they don't do it anymore, and it nearly put me to sleep. So, you'll need to research it yourself.

Yeah, well... apparently it involves a debriefing, then g*d nods benevolently, says, "what happens in the robe stays in the robe". And with that, ex-pope it is.

Would a skype number work for being available on more than one phone? Or are they just for outgoing calls?
