Almost four months ago to the day, millions of O2 – and by extension Tesco Mobile and giffgaff – customers were left without service, be it calls, texts or data.
Fast-forward four months and it’s “déjà vu all over again”, as millions of customers on the O2 network have been left paralysed. Er, not literally.
According to the Live Status Checker, the latest O2 network problems began last night, specifically affecting 2G services in the north west of Scotland.
That issue was seemingly resolved this morning, however O2 later updated the status checker, revealing that the problem was “ongoing”.
O2 says: “Further to the fault we reported earlier (where some customers in some areas have been unable to make or receive calls, texts or use data), we believe we have now identified the cause of the fault and are taking corrective action to restore service to those customers affected.
“Again we are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing.”
Earlier this afternoon, O2 vowed to have things back up and running by 1630GMT, however that promise has since been removed. Er, makes sense since it's almost 7pm.
Some Facebook friends are yelling that their O2 service has been restored, however the fault remains open on the status checker.
Anyone here on O2? How are you getting on?
UPDATE: O2 has updated the status checker to show that the issue is "Fixed", saying: "Further to our previous update where some customers in some areas have been unable to make or receive calls, send texts or use data, the cause of the fault was identified and fixed this afternoon."
However, the network adds: "Due to high traffic levels during the peak early evening period customers may experience intermittent performance as full service is recovered. We would like to reassure those customers still impacted that we are working as hard as we can to systematically restore their full service."
Uhm, so is it resolved? How can it be "Fixed" if you still have work to do?
