One-day BlackBerry PlayBook exclusive for Carphone Warehouse

One-day BlackBerry PlayBook exclusive for Carphone WarehouseAs the (presumably) lovely Kate Solomon of TechRadar notes, the BlackBerry PlayBook will arrive at selected branches of the Carphone Warehouse one day ahead of other retailers. You can grab yourself some RIM tablet action from 15 June; that's this Wednesday.

Those eager for QNX beaver should head to Carphone Warehouse stores in Selfridges on Oxford Street, Westfield, Manchester Trafford, Bluewater and Bristol Cribbs.

The BlackBerry PlayBook has a 7in display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 5MP rear shooter with 3MP on the front. Not too shabby, huh?

However, despite the rolling out of a second update – namely BlackBerry Tablet OS v1.0.5 – there’s still no native email client. Jeez Louise.

There are three models, priced £80 apart. The modest 16GB model will set you back £399, the 32GB unit weighs in at £479, and the 64GB behemoth is £559. Incidentally, those prices are identical to the Wi-Fi only iPad 2. Which would you rather have?

RIM are crazy, in a market they are already fighting an uphill battle in they then think they can compete with those sort of prices? Personally i hate tablets but my preference at this price point i would certainly NOT get a blackberry.

Playbook. Got one on trial at the moment.
Quick, intuitive, built in tethering and *has* email for google, hotmail, yahoo etc. If you have blackberry mail, then Bridge works very nicely and no need for a second sim and more expensive data plan.
The media capabilities are very good (as is output over hdmi) and all in all comes across as a very serious alternative.
It's not an ipad though, and this for many people will be its downfall no matter how good it is (and it is)
