If you thought HTC calling its One successor the One was confusing, things are about to get a whole lot more confusinger.
Announced almost simultaneously with the HTC One 2014 earlier this week, the OnePlus One will officially launch on April 23. OnePlus One; wouldn’t that be the Two?
The announcement was made over on the OnePlus forums, and for those of you wondering ‘Who the hell is OnePlus?’, it’s a spanking new smartphone startup fronted by former Oppo VP Pete Lau.
Staff member Carl posts: “We're almost ready to showcase our baby to the world. On April 23, the OnePlus One will be fully unveiled.
“Forget gimmicks and bloat. It's time to return to the product itself. Its design, its build quality. The feeling you get when using it. It's time to return to user value, and make all the necessary choices to ensure that in the end, it's the user that benefits.
“Thanks for everyone's patience and support over the last few months. We promise it will be worth it. #NeverSettle”.
OnePlus One specs, as revealed in various social media profiles (including its Facebook cover photo), include a 5.5in 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 13MP rear camera and 3,100mAh battery.
As for OnePlus One price, the startup has already promised that it’ll cost “less than $400”.
It’s not clear if the OnePlus One will be available in Europe, but presumably we’ll find out for sure on April 23.
