The “Flagship Killer” OnePlus One was arguably one of the best smartphones of 2014, but unfortunately the much-discussed Style Swap covers – including a bamboo option – were ultimately discontinued.
However, a fresh teaser suggests a OnePlus One metal back cover might be launching tomorrow morning in China.
GizmoChina spotted a post on OnePlus’ Weibo account, essentially comprised of a periodic table and an invite to return at 10am tomorrow for the full story.
What the periodic table means is a complete mystery, though it’s not too far-fetched to expect some sort of rear cover – perhaps metal – comprised of one or more of those elements.
Since the OnePlus One is sold at cost, the Chinese manufacturer could do with churning out accessories in order to make a few bucks.
That was the idea with the OnePlus One Style Swap rear covers, but they were discontinued amid fears that users could damage their phones. The process of swapping covers was described as “tricky” by OnePlus, and could “leave the back cover slightly creaky or loose” – not to mention potential battery damage. Eek.
OnePlus promised things would be improved for the inevitable OnePlus 2, set for launch later this year, though the cheeky Chinese chaps might well have something up their sleeves in the meantime.
Again, full story tomorrow.
