Some things are taken for granted in the smartphone world, and one of those is that Google will unveil the latest version of Android at its annual I/O event, with new Nexus devices (and updates for existing Nexuseseses) following shortly thereafter. Ish.
A Qualcomm roadmap appears to give credence to that notion, with the first Key Lime Pie (Android 5.0?) devices seemingly penciled in for Q2. Interesting.
The roadmap shows a couple of Key Lime Pie devices at late Q2, and a third unspecified device at late Q3.
Amusingly, Qualcomm reportedly scrambled to remove all traces of the roadmap from the cyberweb, contacting some blogs directly and asking for the image to be removed. Yeah, good luck with that.
Consensus is, one of the first Key Lime Pie devices will be the much-discussed X-Phone, the first collaboration between Google and Motorola.
As I was saying earlier this morning, the existence of the X-Phone was accidentally confirmed in a Motorola job listing. Whether it’s destined to be a Nexus phone or not is still up for debate. Maybe, to keep the peace, there’ll be a couple of Nexus devices launched simultaneously. Just a thought.
In any case, all eyes on Google I/O in May. Qualcomm insists.
