I hate New Year’s Eve. I resent the annual obligation to do something (Jesu knows what) in order to welcome in the New Year. It’s rubbish and invariably disappointing. The end.
Anyway, curmudgeonly mini-rant aside, Orange expects its customers to set all kinds of records with calls, texts, picture messages and data as we enter space year 2012AD.
Orange reckons 78 million calls will be made on its network on New Year’s Eve alone. Remember, that’s just the Orange network. Good lord.
As for data, Orange predicts use will be up 25% year on year, as its users flock to Twitter and Facebook to post all sorts of hilarious status updates and that. "Happy New Beer, LOL!"
Picture messages (does anyone actually use MMS?) will leap 18% to 1.8 million, while texts will soar 14% to a whopping 170 million.
"This New Year is set to be another record breaker for Orange customers, as they use their mobiles to welcome in the New Year," said some dude from Orange. "This year we expect customers to celebrate with an increase in texts, pictures, calls and even data usage, while they send emails or tweet about their festivities."
As always, it’s probably a good idea to get in early with your texts, or wait till later on the 1st.
