I used to provide tech support via Live Chat many moons ago, so I sympathise with the subject of this story to an extent. Actually, who am I kidding? When it comes to mobile phones, this guy doesn’t have a clue.
During an online chat, Orange customer service rep, Ryan, revealed his lack of understanding when it comes to Windows Phone and Android, boldly claiming that the former is prone to viruses while the latter has no such problem. Incredible.
When asked if Windows Phone handsets could get viruses, Ryan explained: “well, there might be a chance of getting it or phone getting hanged. The phone might slow down its speed.”
Ryan went on to reveal that “android do not have such problems,” and further explained: “with android its very easy to download applications.”
Android, renowned for its easy app downloads. That’s assuming you can find what you’re looking for on the Android Market and the bloody thing actually downloads properly.
To be fair, there are far more heinous crimes being committed (er, figuratively) by customer service folk every day. In my experience, training in contact centres is minimal and people generally couldn’t give a crap.
Heck, so long as Ryan's "average handling time" is below x minutes, I suspect he'll be alright. Top marks.
