For all uk networks you can get sms delivery reports by prefixing the message with a network-specific code. I'm typing this on my phone, and I'll try and find the right code/link for you later 
Or you could ring Orange customer care. They should be able to tell you how to go about it.

Prefix a message with *0# and you'll get a delivery report, regardless of the network. Good luck!

is it free? and where do you put the *0#? before the recipients number or at the start of the message?

You can use the code at the start of the actual text or turn it on within the settings. It varies between phones and can usually be found in the message settings on the handset. Orange charges 1p per delivery report.
