Has anyone installed a Gingerbread custom ROM on their OSF? If so, is it any good? Any problems? Or if you didnt, can you recommend a decent Froyo ROM?

S'alright :), XDA have a few ROMs for the ZTE Blade (that's what it's called on XDA, not the Orange San Fran.), you should check it out :).

LOL.
I just powered off the OSF for flashing and it wont even power on now.. v.strange indeed!

Have you actually done anything warranty voiding yet? Or have you literally just turned off the phone? I don't know how ROM flashing works on the ZTE Blade as I've never owned one.

It already has a Froyo custom ROM on it. Was trying to get something better on (i.e. Droid 2.3).

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 1, 2011 at 20:10

Oh right, have you managed to get it to turn on yet?

shuwaz  Sep. 1, 2011 at 20:25

still nothing yet. Not sure whats going on. Battery was at 50% last time it was on.

What happens if you put it on charge? Also will it boot into recovery mode (I assume that'll be CWM)?

shuwaz  Sep. 1, 2011 at 21:10

got it going again after leaving the battery out for 10 mins.

Just going to boot it into CWM now, progress with the flash.

Well I'm glad to hear it's not dead :). Let me know how flashing Cyanogen Mod goes? I think it's Android 2.3, but I'm not 100% sure...

shuwaz  Sep. 1, 2011 at 21:36

Installed it now but the OSF keeps looping on the Android robot boot up logo/splash screen.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 1, 2011 at 21:37

Did you do a full wipe before installing the new ROM?

shuwaz  Sep. 1, 2011 at 21:38

yeah.

i guess its because mine is a gen1 OSF and this CM ROM is for gen2.

matt101101 / MOD  Sep. 1, 2011 at 22:04

Oh right, I didn't know there were different generations of the Blade, is that OLED and S-LCD versions?

I edited my "best answer" so no-one gets confused.

I got v15 of Ginger Stir Fry (Latest is v21based on 2.3.4 IIRC) its light, fast and the battery life is about two days+ for my daughters use. I haven't seen issues with the phone that have caused her a problem, apart from the screen went black once, but a reboot cured it (proximity issue)
Its neatly wrapped up with TPT to convert straight to Gen 2, but a full wipe will ensue.
Well worth a trial IMHO
