Monday mornings are bad enough at the best of times, but for many Vodafone subscribers today has had a particularly trying start after an overnight break-in at one of its data centres damaged part of the network.
According to a Vodafone statement, the network's Basingstoke facility was broken into through the night, with the resultant damage leaving many subscribers with no voice or data access when they woke up this morning.
“We had a break in last night at one of our technical facilities which resulted in damage done to some of our equipment,” the statement read.
“This means that some customers may be experiencing temporary loss of voice, SMS and internet services. We are working quickly to restore these and will be back to normal as soon as we can.”
It's not clear at this stage the extent of the damage, or whether anything was stolen. However, Vodafone assured its customers that no sensitive data or private information had been lost or compromised.
