Panasonic Eluga Power
Panasonic scrapping European smartphone plans claim insiders
Twas nigh on a year ago now that Panasonic announced its big plans for a global smartphone assault – I remember because it involved me coming clean over having owned a Panasonic X300.
Well, a year down the line and the European smartphone market remains decidedly unconquered, and the latest rumours suggest the Japanese firm's international phone division is about to be axed altogether.

We've been waiting most of the year now for the Panasonic Eluga and Eluga Power to hit the UK – and now it seems they might not be coming after all.
The company's big 2012 European assault has so far seen the Eluga only make it as far as Germany and Italy, and the company says it “does currently not have any plans to change this”.

Panasonic did a good job of talking up its big assault on the European smartphone market last year, but let's face it – the arrival of the Eluga hasn't exactly changed the world, has it?
Clearly not, but maybe it's the bigger screened Eluga Power that'll bully its Android stablemates and blow us away with its blinding Eluganess. Sadly, it looks like we won't be finding out for a while yet, with the big-boned Panny only now expected to land in Q3.

We have the sneaky feeling that Panasonic may be in for a bit of a surprise when it launches its big European smartphone comeback and discovers that a quirky name isn't actually enough to keep people interested for long enough to actually buy your products.
That's just us, though, and if you feel differently you'll be interested to hear that Panasonic has announced that the Eluga era will officially kick off in April, not March as we were originally expecting.

Of all the new smartphones I've seen at Mobile World Congress 2012, this handset hits me as being one of the most striking. The slim profile, the 5" screen and the thin border look sweet. Like it? Mobot’s Big List of Mobile World Congress Stuff
Alright? Wendy Cameraface was having a browse through our Mobile World Congress content (not bad if I do say so myself, considering there are only two of us here) this morning and remarked that there's a lot to take in. I kinda understand where the little lady is coming from, in the sense that we’ve got hands-on content here, video there, and countless scribbles in between.
Being a gentleman (honest), I hate to see a damsel in distress, so I’ve put together a menu type thing that’s alphabetical by manufacturer. I know, I know; it’s a pretty good idea. Thanks, me.

We still can't stand the name, but Panasonic has used Mobile World Congress to unveil its second Eluga-branded handset – this time with a beastly 5in screen.
It's called the Eluga Power – or the ELUGA power as Panasonic's press release annoyingly insists on calling it – and it super-sizes not only the recently announced Eluga's 4.3in display, but a good few other specs too.

It's been two days since Panasonic's debut Android smartphone stood up and said hello to European and US mobile enthusiasts, and as promised we have a few more specs to fill you in on.
We also have an explanation as to what Eluga actually stands for, though sadly it hasn't stopped the name sitting at the back of our throats like the advance guard of a particularly nasty cold.

Yesterday, Martin scribbled a bit about Panasonic’s spanking new Eluga smartphone, and now we’re told to expect not one but two further devices from the Japanese manufacturer imminently.
According to Pocket-lint’s sources within the company, we’ll see a new smartphone and tablet from Panasonic at Mobile World Congress next week.

We've known about Panasonic's plans to get into the mobile game in the West for a few months now, and the company has now gone official with the handset it'll be pinning its hopes on.
It's called the Eluga, and while we don't have the full specs just yet it seems rumours that were doing the rounds back in December were pretty much spot on.
