Are third party iPhone chargers sold on eBay safe?

I once had an eBay sourced iPod Shuffle charger melt (smoke and everything) when plugged into USB. For that reason alone I won't get any more from eBay. Sent a message with a photo showing him what happened to his cable and never got a response.

Cheap crap is cheap crap.

By all means get a third party cable and do not pay Apple's prices but I wouldn't ever get a no-name from God knows where again although I am sure 99.9% of them are fine.

Any charger with USB connector is safe to charge any phone (including iPhone) as long as it's brand name and not from unknown HK/China based Ebay seller.

Go for higher AMP output (at least 1A) to have your phone charge faster. Buy from amazon or any other respected retailer.

Also: worth noting that while the original iPhone charger WILL also charge an iPad etc...some 3rd party chargers don't. But yep: I used a couple of sub-£2 chargers without any problems.

But as MDrx says - I wouldn't go for total no-name, no-box" chargers. You get a cheap one in Tesco etc....

Basically, buy it from somewhere accountable, but there's no need to pay Apple's silly prices.
