Why do you always have to pay extra for Blackberry data?

Why isn't the cost of Blackberry data simply included in the tariffs? Isn't a Blackberry useless without data anyway? It's not like it's optional!

Any Smartphone is useless without data. You example does not make much sense. Unless you are referring to Blackberry service.

You usually require an extra-(BB)data add-on, because BlackBerry's security and speed lies in the fact that traffic goes through BlackBerry servers, not your network's.

So, while there is an extra expense for paying BB, you will use les data from your network.

No need to cry. You just need to adapt you plan - as I said: you won't need your network's data - or at least a lot less. So you can end up saving money. O2 in Ireland, by the way, do NOT require you to buy a BB add-on. You can use whatever data-plan you have.
