"Pentalobular Screws" Rumour uncovered!

So the other day I was in the Apple Store, Meadowhall Sheffield. To get my Iphone fixed has the home button was becoming unresponsive.

I was been served by a guy who looked just like Steve jobs. (I'm surprised to see him doing secret millionaire - 'Bit obvious') And I asked him about the new screws and if mine would get the new ones if the handset was to get fixed...oh boy what a rehearsed spiel he had!

He told me it was a rumour and that the reason the handsets have them now was because people were going into Apple Stores across the world and taking in screwdrivers to dismantle the backs of the iPhone4's and stealing them. (because the backs are locked to the display table and can be taken of easily!)

So I felt assured that I would keep my existing back so that if it scratched or broke I could just buy a replacement back...How wrong I was.

My handset wasn't repaired they just gave me a shiny new one which did have the new screws at which I didn't complain as I had a new iPhone4...but it did mean that if I wanted to repair in myself I would have to get it repaired by Apple (£30 repair for a new back - in case you didn't know)

So there you have it, Hope the few people who care found this interesting and now know where they stand if there iPhone4 get taken into the back of the Apple store 'No need to worry about new screws".

and if no one found it helpful at least I have fuelled the "iHaters"

Also in terms of buying a new iphone4 now it is very likely it will have the "Pentalobular screws" as that's how they manufacture them now.

Lastly you can buy the new screwdrivers for the "Pentalobular screws" online though the places i've seen them they are a bit costly for what they are!

I was also served by the Steve Jobs lookalike American guy in Meadowhall, he was far better than the clueless idiots who inhabit that particular Apple Store though, which was nice. I ended up with a new handset too, and new screws, still have a bit of deathgrip. But can't fault the service, as I was in and out within 15 mins. Might invest in a screwdriver set for when my Warranty runs out in June though. Or maybe "engineer" a small hairline crack to get a new one again! Mwahhaha!

@JanSt Basically what happens is you make an appointment to go to the Apple Store online or on the phone > Then they tell you to backup & Restore your phone> You go instore and they either fix it (Very Rare) or give you a spanking new one (Refurbished though i believe)

@Admin Great news thanks!!!!

@luke-kirk oh, gotcha ;) I thought they give you a different handset w/out telling you. That'd be quite naughty, as you'd suddenly have a different IMEI - various bad scenarios.
