There are not a lot of budget phones for Android. It's expensive, but not as expensive as Apple. Thing with Android is that older phones do not get latest software available, which degrades user experience significantly. You need to root and update phone yourself - sort-ta like jailbreaking on iPhone.
Sony X8 is very old, but still supports all basic functionalities of Android. Requires rooting and ROM installation.
