Phone connections now outnumber people: analyst

Here's an interesting little snipped of info spotted over on Total Telecom: according to analyst firm The Mobile World, there are now more phone connections on the planet than there are people. There are some 5.6 mobile phones in circulation, and together with an estimated 1.32bn landlines, the total now stands at over 6.92 billion connections, which is the estimated population of the world according to the USA Census Bureau.

Not sure about the exact numbers, but I seem to remember reading in Ireland we have about 2.5 connections per citizen (including babies, and Father Ted)
