If a phone is unlocked from a network, does it automatically get the SIM free update?

Say a phone is locked to O2 for example, and you get it unlocked, and an Android update rolls out. Normally you would've had to wait for O2's approval, but if it's unlocked do you qualify for the SIM free update? How does that work?

No, all the network unlock does is allow any SIM card to work in that phone. The phone will still be running network branded firmware and be will be updated with every other device of that type which has firmware branded by that particular network.
