Which phones get the Android updates first?

If I want to stay up to date with Android, which phone should I get? Do some phones/manufacturers get the updates before others?

The nexus s and the original nexus one always get the latest updates first as they're made by google.

"official updates" id have to say nothing is guaranteed but if you check various mobile phone forums for android and see which is best supported by the "community" that will give you a better idea.
i have desire z running 2.3.3 sony ericsson play rom.
id have to suggest the newer release then the more likely to be updated BUT there is no guarantee using that method either.

To add to that, networks also play a lot into that. Three is generally the best at pushing Android updates to phones.

As Numpti says the Google Nexus phones will always get the update first. Other manufacturers do 'unlocked' updates depending on how quick they can react and then the Network Operators add their own delays on top of those. All the UK network providers are guilty of prolonging the agony of waiting for new releases, but I go outside the loop on that by having de-branded my Desire on Orange phone,Rooting and installing Cyanogen MOD 7. This get's me updates not far behind the Nexus gang.
