Do Three phones come unlocked?

Do new phones on Three Mobile (contract or PAYG) come unlocked?
If not, do they charge to unlock them? Are there any conditions (like serve 6 months of a contract first)?

Yes they are all unlocked now.

They will also unlock any old/previous phone for free at any time.

Policy changed last month :)

Just for the record.

CPW and P4U phones come unlocked.
O2 contract phones come locked but can be unlocked for free by O2 during the term of the contract. Pay as you go is £15 but only after 12 months.
Vodafone phones are locked, contract customers can unlock for free after 12 months otherwise they pay £19.99. Pay as you go customers can unlock at any time for £19.99.
EE charge £20 for unlocking contract customers phones, you must have had the phone for at least 6 months before EE will unlock it.

Alternatively you can buy a cheap unlock code yourself Via Ebay if you have a locked phone.

I think Three, CPW and P4U have the best policy tbh. Phones should just come unlocked.

They are not, usually, unlocked/sim-free. The rest? Not sure. I'm in Ireland - things are different here.

My galaxy s3 was unlocked out the box from a three shop , and they unlock for free just call CS 333 and follow instructions.

They asked me for a fee to unlock a phone. I was still under contract. Maybe this only works for out of contract phones or PAYG phones.
Anyone can confirm?

Historically no, however all new contracts with a phone supplied now come unlocked as standard. They will also unlock any phone used on Three contract/PAYG free of charge as well.
