How many photos can you store on 8GB?

I’m looking at getting the HTC 7 Mozart and see it has 8GB internal memory. How many photos would that store? I have a separate mp3 player so don’t need to store songs. Thanks!

Conventional wisdom (and conventional JPEG compression) would give each 8 Megapixel picture a size of approx 4Gb and you should be looking at nearly 2000 pics. This of course depends (as mentioned) on the JPEG compression of the phone/camera, the type of picture you are taking and the settings used. Bare in mind some of the 8Gb could well be used up by apps/backups etc so you probably won't have access to all of it.
Personally speaking I wouldn't buy a phone WITHOUT an sd card slot to either backup onto or remove for backup elsewhere.

Good point - I wouldn't actually have the full 8GB to play with. Hmm.....
Ah well - that's given something to think about. Cheers :D

For the HTC 7 Mozart the camera resolution is 3264 x 2448 which gives 7990272 pixels in a photo, these use 16 million colours (24 bits => 3 bytes) so a raw bit map will be:

( 3264 * 2448 ) * 3 = 23970816 bytes

Which is approx. 23MB per raw image.

Compression ratios for JPEG are generally in excess of 10:1 so the largest images will be approx. 2MB in size.

So say that the OS and a selection of apps requires 2GB of space that leaves 6GB for images. Thus the number of photos would be 6GB / 2MB which is approx. 3000.

Note: while the Mozart is shipped with an internal 8GB or 16GB micro-SD card this can upgraded to a larger capacity (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-831579.html).
