Is there much point in 1080p phones?

Is there much point in 1080p phones do you think? Is the difference between 720p and 1080p on such a small screen even noticeable?

Well, I've never seen a 1080p phone in the flesh, but I can't see that there's too much room for improvement over the 720p displays we see all the time; since you struggle to see the pixels on those (from a reasonable distance) anyway.

Likewise I'm curious for sure, but not convinced I'll want one.

Of course if I do see a big difference and it doesn't dent the battery life I'll definitely start lusting after them. Probably best I don't look at them for a while.

Doesn't help that they'll all be huge and you don't like big phones. I doubt we'll see sub-4.7" 1080p phones, and you just sent back a 4.7" phone for being too big.

I think on a Note sized device 1080p may be a slightly more useful feature, but I'm still unconvinced it's necessary due to the current Note's display being so nice (especially if 1080p means going back to PenTile as 720p did from 480p).

Technically I sold it. But anyway the new 5" 1080p phones are pretty much same size as the first 4.7-4.8 ones, (and the razr i is tiny seeming compared to similarly screen size phones) so maybe the next 4.7 ones will be 4.3-4.5 size :)

Probably will be pentile 1080p on amoled for now. But then I prefer lcd and those aren't.

I assume you got more than you paid for it then? Good lad ;).

True, they have cut down the bezels on the new 1080p devices, so I guess if you can deal with a One X or S3, you can deal with a 5" 1080p device. What have you ordered as a replacement for the N4?

PenTile can do one, it's a horrid technology which ruins otherwise nice displays. As I did with 720p, I won't be buying a 1080p device until Samsung make RGB 1080p displays. Judging by the time it took them for 720p, that'll be the Note 4.
